Virtual Tour of Slipstream with Jenn E Norton

Jenn E Norton, a Guelph based artist known for her multimedia-focused installations, shares information about her exhibition Slipstream and her artistic practice. In an otherwise empty gallery space, Norton’s immersive video installation includes six reflective panels positioned in an inward-facing ring which create channels of infinite regress. A dancing figure in the form of a spiraling flurry of silk moves from one panel to another. As the dancer traverses the ring, it appears as though the viewer and the figure share the same physical space.

About the Artist

Jenn E Norton is an artist using time-based media to create immersive, experiential installations that reframe familiar objects, landscapes, and activities as fantastical, dreamlike occurrences. Using stereoscopic, interactive video, animation, augmented reality, sound, and kinetic sculpture, Norton’s work explores the blurring boundaries of virtual and physical realms. Often using video as a starting point within her process, Norton’s imaginative video compositions of disjunctive imagery are bound together in post-production, using a combination of pre-cinema and contemporary display technologies.
