Harold Klunder’s interview with Victoria LeBlanc, former executive director of the Visual Arts Centre and McClure Gallery, offers a fascinating personal glimpse into the collaboration between Klunder and Heward, which resulted in the works in the exhibition you’ll see in the 360°online tour.
The exhibition presents a series of 17 collaborative prints by Harold Klunder and the late John Heward that were accomplished over a two-year period between 2017 and 2019. The two artists worked with carborundum on neighbouring plaques, interacting with each other and responding in the same way to each other’s gestures. The resulting works are a testament to their shared appreciation for the experimental approach. The works mark a noteworthy historic collaboration between esteemed Canadian artists and stand as an hommage to one another, as the prints were concluded in the month prior to John’s passing.
